EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH
Social and economic success are sustainable only if they are compatible
with the natural environment. With this conviction Dr. Braungart founded
EPEA in 1987. EPEA is an independent design office and scientific research
institute based in Hamburg, Germany. EPEA develops for its clients ecologically
optimized product concepts. EPEA co-operates with offices worldwide, especially
with the sustainable product design office MBDC in Charlottesville, Virginia.
McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry L.L.C.
MBDC is a private sustainable product and process design consultancy co-founded
by American architect William McDonough and German chemist Michael Braungart
in 1995. The firm's team of highly innovative staff members helps manufacturers
redesign their products. This work encompasses both materials and manufacturing
processes, and is designed to eliminate negative impact of the environment,
communities and the economy. The work of MBDC goes well beyond eco-efficiency
to restorative product design, an approach that adds value, creates new
products and opens new markets.
Both
firms (EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung and MBDC McDonough Braungart
Design Chemistry) share a common set of values that embrace intelligent,
aesthetic and eco-effective design.

The Institute cooperates with educational institutions, laboratories,
environmental organizations, individuals, governments, and corporations
worldwide.
GreenBlue Institute
GreenBlue, which began as a nexus of projects at McDonough Braungart Design
Chemistry (MBDC), was founded in November, 2002 with the conviction that
a non-profit platform will allow broader leveraging of MBDC's assets into
a comprehensive open-source system of resources for the widespread adoption
of cradle-to-cradle principles.
GreenBlue
acts as a catalyst to transform the making of things... encouraging and
enabling the widespread adoption and implementation of sustainable thinking
and design. They provide the theoretical, technical, and information tools
required to transform industry into an economically profitable, ecologically
regenerative, and socially empowering activity through intelligent design.
